if you’re planning a trip to istanbul then look no further because this right here is the best guide on the internet that you’ll find to experience everything that you need to see here from restaurants to sightseeing i will show you how to make the most of your time in this massive city of 20 million people i’ll also show you how to travel istanbul on a budget which honestly isn’t that hard it’s one of the cheapest cities i’ve ever traveled the first thing you should know about istanbul is that this is one of the few places in the entire world where you can experience two continents from one city istanbul is split right down the middle by the bosphorus river and that creates a divide between the european and the asian side so you can literally travel to two continents for a 75 cent ferry talk about value now i bring this up because in my last four times visiting istanbul i found that most tourists including myself typically prefer the european side don’t get me wrong istanbul is a massive place and the asian side has lots of incredible things to see and do but considering limited time most people will find that the iconic mosques sites and restaurants are generally going to be found on the euro side one last little housekeeping thing is that istanbul has two major airports one on the euro and one on the asian side but no matter what you fly into it’s only going to be about 45 minutes to an hour and a half if traffic’s bad to get into taksim square which is kind of like the downtown core of istanbul if you’re landing in the istanbul airport just know it’s going to cost you about 160 turkish lira to take a taxi from the airport to the downtown core which is like 11 for like a 45 minute drive that’s pretty cheap now choosing where to stay can be overwhelming in a city of this size so let me help you generally i’d recommend krakoy or galata or really anywhere on this blip of land here this whole area is full of mosques incredible restaurants and beautiful sunsets so you can’t go wrong with it but my preference is galata near the tower if you want to go full tourist mode then you can actually go up top but we’re not going to do that there’s really no better way to find local gems especially when it comes to food than meeting the locals so meet anil and bethel so this right here is vienna cavessi you’re all laughing at me no your pronunciation is getting better it’s not going to get any better usually there’s a huge line just to get a seat it is worth the wait if you want to truly indulge yourself let me show you so they take one of these saint sebastian cheesecake pieces and just lather it in chocolate is it good yeah it’s really good all right i’m sold if you haven’t crashed yet then that sense of sdm cheesecake should hopefully give you the energy that you need to start exploring this vibrant city and one of my top recommendations would be to start with one of turkey’s most beautiful mosques the two mosques that i’d recommend you add onto your list are going to be haga sophia and the blue mosque and conveniently they’re both right next to each other haga sophia is famous for its massive dome-like structure for over a thousand years it was considered the largest cathedral in the world until 1931 when it was turned into a museum now as for the blue mosque that was built in 1616 this one was made famous by true to its name it’s blue interior one thing that you should know though is from my experience they have a lot of restoration work going on not that surprising because it’s like hundreds of years old but it can definitely impact the experience of seeing it so hopefully you get some better luck so now you’re probably getting a little hungry and a visit to istanbul just isn’t complete without trying their world famous kebabs and i’ve got the spot this is the best place you can find it in istanbul one of the best kebab places according to this dude not him this dude yeah the other guy i love this style of seating so casual here it is the best kebab in istanbul sometimes kebabs can be a little bit too oily this is delicious this is the spot right here and you just might want to follow this up with some ice cream for dessert i’m really looking forward to this ice cream i’ve heard amazing things if you guys come to turkey look for halil he won’t give you any ice cream so why is turkey and istanbul so cheap well the simple answer is sadly the currency it’s been dealing with hyperinflation and this has caused a lot of economic hardship to the local people so beethoven was just telling me that five years ago one us dollar got you two turkish lira now it gets you 14. you were saying that you you can literally take the bus and it’ll change prices on the way home yes you need to check the price all the time if you were going to buy something or go somewhere so it’s up to dollar wow crazy as travelers it does present itself to be a unique opportunity though it means that when you travel with your euro your us dollar or your bitcoin you can buy so much more than you could ever imagine selfishly it is a huge appeal to visiting turkey now guys i felt i needed to make a separate part just to talk about the people of turkey because there’s something very unique about it i’ve traveled a lot i’ve seen a lot of cities a lot of countries and there’s very few people as kind as warm and as loving as the turkish people they’re the kind of people that will literally open up their personal homes for no personal gain but just to hear your story and that’s a warmth that’s felt everywhere from the grand bazaar to the everyday life out on the streets you will be taken back by how sweet these people are and it’s one of the reasons i keep going back this is the kind of place you can come with peace of mind and know that you’re going to be surrounded by amazing people so we’re currently on the north side of the galata tower where you can find high street it’s a street full of coffee shops restaurants and famously street performers what is this guy doing he is making meditation but in a sufi way so he is a sufi who follows sufism and now he’s making his prayer if traditional shopping isn’t really your thing then i’d probably recommend you move away from high street and visit the world’s first ever shopping center the grand bazaar is this sprawling mall filled with fresh foods knockoff gucci and tons of awesome jewelry i actually got some great pieces when i came last time which for me was a cool way to turn my trip to istanbul into a memory it was nice until it broke and if you’re into knockoff goods well just know there is way too much of that but that’s definitely not the appeal for me personally i wouldn’t recommend spending more than a few hours in here but if you’re a big shopper you could easily spend all day it’s huge if you’re in grand bazaar don’t forget to bargain they will always charge you two three five more times prices one fifth yeah maybe start with one fifth of their price yeah like okay they will increase yeah you will increase they will reduce so you will meet in the middle love it most other markets i’ve traveled to usually use deceptive sales strategies to try and take your money however people will invite you in to try some of their different desserts it’s one of the most beautiful ways to be sold to and then the grand bazaar at least if you’re gonna get ripped off you get some free tea i mean literally everyone’s gonna offer you tea so this is turkish drinks 101 you have turkish cheese it’s nice generally they’ll hand it to you without sugar which is really nice but if you want you can sweeten it we have here turkish coffee which is one of the most granular bitter coffees you’ll ever have it’s an acquired taste i would say it’s not for me if you made it this far in the video you may have noticed a little secret sauce going on in some of the animations and that is all made possible by today’s video sponsor render forest renderforce is all of your favorite branding tools in one simple dashboard from video website and graphic creation it’s all right here now i personally love motion titles and animations but generally that skill set requires a separate hire which is time consuming and costly render force gives you the power to create eye-catching logos and you can animate it using their software and it’s so easy to use there’s countless typography packages there are video templates and a ton of other powerful storytelling tools and i’ve got 20 off for you today for render force all you got to do is check that link down below and use the promo code lost and let’s get back to the video it is time for turkish language 101. time for some valuable turkish words that you’ll want to know when you’re here it is abi and you can use that word for any male person means bro it doesn’t matter if the person is older than you or younger than you yeah this is my avi you’re my hobby i think the basics you want to know are thank you which is okay how do you say hello you guys make everything complicated now like all destinations that have been made popular with tourism there’s going to be some destinations that are mostly just for photos and some of the iconic photos you can find are of course going to be in the lamp shops the rug shops you can find a lot of these in the grand bazaar but just be warned that a lot of the owners are sick and tired of your bs you entering their shop and not buying anything so sometimes they’ll just want you to pay a little bit for the use of the shop or if you’re buying a rug then you know by all means take some photos like i said they’re very hospitable but they’re also kind of sick of people doing follow me two photos in their rug shop so i get that this isn’t going to be for everyone but i thought i’d mention it if you want to get this famous photo up on the rooftop overlooking the beautiful riverside with the seagulls trying to eat you then there’s actually quite a few rooftops that do this i believe this is the name of the place i went to it’s become a bit of a tourist attraction you’ll pay for my memory 10 to 20 dollars just to get your two minutes of fame once it’s over you get shooed away but if you want to get a beautiful photo there’s no denying it is pretty cool the experience not so cool if you somehow didn’t manage to eat at every single stop in the grand bazaar well i’ve got another spot you’ll want to go check out so we’re going to try some traditional turkish food this is a bilexi cuisine restaurant and all the food is ready over here so you just order and eat really quick and the food in this place is really tasty this is a not so typical meal for me but a very traditional meal in northern turkey what’s this one this is steamed cooked hamsi it’s fish with some vegetables this is a pancake of the same fish again this is so tasty we have beans here the typical black sea region food we have black cabbage soup here no fish no meat this is vegetarian i’m from north my favorite one is i think omelette fish that’s the beauty of travel trying completely new things that you’ve never had before and in one sitting i’ve tried five new things when you come get the sarma it’s rice wrapped in cabbage in yogurt and it’s fire all of this is about eight dollars have you booked your flight yet now look my drinking days are pretty much entirely behind me but every now and then when a traditional experience presents itself i will partake and this local spirit was an interesting one i don’t like it this right here is something i don’t know if i’ve had it’s turkish alcohol name is rekki rake and i was told i had water yeah yes you mixed with water okay apparently something’s about to happen it’s like a science experiment [Music] oh wow yeah okay i have actually had this it smells like black licorice right you know what it’s not my thing i’m gonna stick to the tea no matter where you travel sunrise and sunset are always epic things to witness and some of the best places to catch it are going to be by the river now there’s a couple spots that i really love there’s the budo eminonu pier just just screenshot this from my memory it’s around this area that you’ll find tons of local fishermen especially at sunrise just out there casting their lines and it’s a moment to partake in the local culture and just be a fly on the wall it’s pretty special if you thought i butchered the last name just you wait another epic spot for sunrise and sunset is going to be bayuk mesidi mosque screenshot i’m sorry turkish friends i’m doing my best and this is a really great place to rent a bike or just go for a little jog for sunrise or sunset the colors can be absolutely wild now if you’re down to spend a little bit more money and turn your life into a music video then no worries because you can do it on a budget here in istanbul you can literally rent a yacht for 85 dollars per hour with a minimum of about a three hour so yeah you’re talking about 250 dollars roughly to have a yacht if you can split that with some friends you can get it down to a very affordable price i mean there’s not many places in the world you can pull that off for the first time ever your rap career has a chance and from my experience there’s no better way to watch the sunset for a special occasion than right between that european and asian divide and if i’m not mistaken i think it means you can commit crimes out there but don’t take my word for it now istanbul is a city that comes to life at night from the restaurants the bars and the clubs a lot of these places will stay open late and one of the parties i experienced here was like nothing i’ve ever seen before but from what i heard a lot of the super late big clubs are in taksim square which is like city center now if you don’t want to rub shoulders with strangers then another cool thing that you could do is check out the turkish hamams it’s literally paying some dude to beat you they lay you flat on these uncomfortable tiles they will strip you naked they’ll use this coarse tool to remove dead skin and just like that you become a fish fillet it’s definitely not your swedish massage it has a bit of a rough side to it but i actually left feeling very refreshing so i wouldn’t bash it i’d actually tried if i were you look guys overall if you’re looking to travel europe slash asia this is such a cool city it’s got a lot to offer and as you can see it’s incredibly affordable but seriously istanbul is scratching the surface of what turkey is and if you want to see what else this country has to offer i did a full road trip across it from cappadocia to the beautiful pamukale so much of it has been shared on my channel there’s very few places in the world that will give you a budget road trip with so many magical experiences so check that playlist down below if you want to see what this country has to offer and guys my name is christian hit that like button if you found this video useful and let’s get lost again in the next one
