traveling is not always fun and games sometimes you’re thrown into situations that are uncomfortable or dangerous or scary and so in this video i’m going to be sharing with you three of my scariest travel stories from visiting every country in the world if you guys have been following me you know that i just traveled to russia to siberia for two weeks and i actually left 10 days before the attack on ukraine so it was crazy timing and thoughts and prayers are going out to all of our friends in ukraine it’s absolutely disgusting what is happening out there but uh during my trip i was mostly in the far east so i was like a 10 hour flight from moscow i’ve been to north korea i have a fascination with north korea and when i found out that russia borders north korea they share an 11 mile strip of land i thought i had to go there so i jumped in a car with three russian friends so there’s four of us total and we took a six hour journey from a town called vladivostok all the way to the border of north korea there’s a town called khasan middle of winter it’s freezing outside like minus 25 degrees and the drive is going fine we visited a frozen waterfall i got some crazy drone shots of the scenery and then we finally made it to the border and there was a sign a blue sign i could never forget it and it said something like you must present your ids uh to the officers and sure enough as i looked through the the windshield i saw two um russian officers military or police guards there with the fuzzy hats and just the look on their face like this and i by the way there was a gray area i didn’t know if i was allowed to go to this town i didn’t know if i needed a permission i heard mixed things from different people so i just decided to go sure enough we get to the border crossing and i checked my my friend’s passports the three russians showed their passports everything was fine because russians are allowed to be there and then he comes to me looks at me says show me your passport all in russian show the passport and he flips through he goes you don’t have permission to be here you need a special permit come with me so i went in this police car i begged and begged it my russian friends could join me for translation and just to make sure that i’m okay and they said no the friends must stay in the car and now they took due to like to some building and he doesn’t speak any russian and we actually don’t know like how how long it’s gonna take there i wasn’t able to bring my phone either can you imagine not having your phone in the situation so to get in their car and would go up uh uphill somewhere open up a gate a barbed wire fence they searched me and they took me in the back room i sat there for 45 minutes by myself nothing then finally a guy comes in with a translator who didn’t speak barely any english and asked me questions who i am what am i doing here am i married do i have kids what’s my job why are you here why do you want to be here and i just told him listen i’m innocent i’m a tourist i’m fascinated by border towns and i want to learn what’s happening here i was scared shitless okay this is probably the most scared i’ve ever been in my entire life and all my travels uh long story short i was there for several hours my friends finally were able to join they were able to translate and let them know what i was doing that i was just traveling and i’m just interested to see what’s going on long story short i had to sign like 30 piece of paper that said i understand the crime i’ve committed and blah blah blah this will happen to me if i get caught again and i’ll be fined and and i’ll be deported from russia so that’s what happened and i had to immediately leave the town and go so um there’s a lot more uh details that happen and i’ll actually link the video above so you guys can check it out so that was probably the scariest travel moment that i’ve had in all my travels and it just happened recently real quick let’s have a next scary story i want to share with you happened in the west african country called guinea so back in 2019 me and my spanish friend alvaro another every country friend uh we were traveling on a road trip from liberia to senegal it was a crazy two and a half week trip and we were driving we crossed the board of sierra leone and we got into guinea now i’ll be the first to say that it’s rough to travel in west africa there are many problems that can happen and there’s a lot of bribery and a lot of corruption so you just got to know that before you go and so we got into the country we were super stoked and we were in some small little town pulled over at a fruit stand just to get some fruit and then i asked for permission of the locals if i could take their photos they said yes so we’re taking photos and videos enjoying a conversation this really angry fat cop comes up on a motorbike and just starts yelling at us i think i have a clip of him actually yelling at us he was like you can’t do this you can’t be filming and we were basically just like dude go away we’re fine we got permission from them everything’s normal and so then we pretty much just drove off and kept going now this guy decided to chase us on his motorbike not only chased us but he went in front of us in front of me and alvaro and our driver and he went to the next checkpoint because traveling west africa there’s checkpoints every 10 20 minutes and he ratted us out by the way we didn’t do anything wrong he just you’ll see what he just wanted money and that’s what that’s what i’m getting at so he told the next checkpoint that we were doing something wrong taking photos blah blah blah and then they demanded twenty dollars and so our poor driver marlin who’s a great guy and a good friend he had to pay the cop 20 for absolutely nothing they saw us as a way for them to make bribery money which i hate giving bribes it’s so against my my will and i just want to always believe that people are good and kind-hearted but um it’s tough and so we paid the bribe and we moved on then we get to the capital of canakri which is definitely in one of my least favorite places in the world it’s um it’s not the cleanest place and there’s not a whole lot to do there so and just happened when we when we got there that there was a coup i don’t know the government was being overthrown and so we were we went to this beautiful mosque by the way insane master second biggest mosque in sub-saharan africa and we’re there we’re going around taking pictures we met the imam which was a great nice friendly guy with a beard and everything and then all of a sudden we were we left the mosque and we were walking down the street and then police come right up to we were shooting on our phones by the way phones not cameras everywhere we look we see policemen that’s why my camera is right here um just the locals the locals will tell on you so it’s also yeah it just feels like this is one of the most unsafe places please comes up to us what are you doing here lola get in my car he just pulls me and alvaro in their car i’m sitting there in the back seat like dude what the hell is going on like why are we in this police car right now ended up he wanted some money we gave him a bribe and we went to another place and there were riots on the streets like people screaming going nuts i don’t know if it was a protest or if it was they were trying to overthrow the government or what the hell was going on but it stressed us out and it just made us feel really unwelcome and uncomfortable so turns out we went and got food and went back to our hotel and we couldn’t even leave our hotel the next day because it was literally that unsafe so the drive from kanokri to basal is going to take two days and we didn’t want to put up with the brides we want to put up with all the crap so we flew and our driver is meeting us there dna is a rough place and uh i can’t say that i’ll ever be back there the third and final scary story that i’m going to share with you in this video happened in southern mexico in a state called chiapas it’s actually my favorite state of mexico it’s uh all the way the southernmost part of the country and there’s a beautiful city called san cristobal de las casas you can go there you can visit the beautiful churches and and it feels like a beautiful spanish european city and then i went down to a town called chamula which has a really interesting culture and i went there because they worship coca-cola they idolize coca-cola they they drink more coke than anyone in the world and the people uh believe in like spiritual goodness uh when you drink coke and i it’s the weirdest thing and it’s it’s insane that people worship coke like they’ll go into a temple and they’ll have coke like on a pedestal and they’ll be like saying prayers to it and they’ll be like crying and stuff i i don’t know but what happened in this town called shamula so i show up with my buddy and there’s like a parade or some annual celebration and the moment we show up um we go to the behind the main church area and we just start hearing all these gunshots and explosions that we like and smoke so we just like go down i’m like down this little corner like covering my face i’m like filming with my gopro looking up at the sky and uh it turned out that it was fireworks but the guy was like running at us like point like i looked up and like they’re pointing fireworks at us at everyone and it’s like explosions like right in front of us and everyone was screaming and it was cast it almost sounded like there was like a big terrorist attack although i know that’s not what was happening i found out quickly after but it was insane and also not to mention like for whatever reason they want to keep everything private the culture and the tribe which i respect and and like they do not like cameras almost like a libya kind of feel like libya is the one country and south sudan where they like hate cameras i felt the same in in this part of mexico which was interesting because the other parts of mexico is opposite people are like open-minded smiling friendly and they want to be filmed and stuff so anyways i was shooting mostly on my phone or my gopro and it turned out that we were just stuck in this like intense gritty festival with these explosions and loud sounds and i we didn’t really know what was going on and even my friend was out of his comfort zone he was like dude what is happening here there was a massive celebration of us and saint rose for these people like massive a huge parade with explosions all over the main plaza is the same things turned out to be okay um you know we ended up going in inside of the of the church and seeing how they worship coke and talking to some interesting people and um i guess looking back knowing that it wasn’t an attack or knowing that it wasn’t gunshots actually it was gunshots they were pointing up in the sky but i mean it wasn’t like an actual attack i don’t think that it’s that scary but i remember just being in the moment and just like ducking down and like i could barely breathe also like with the smoke so i had my shirt over my nose like that uncomfortable feeling was just like really threw me off guard but i live for these experiences and would i do it again absolutely in a heartbeat uplifting stories about the world but the truth is there’s a lot of things that happen when you go to every country you’re put into situations that are a little bit out of your comfort zone and i love it and why i don’t like it it doesn’t mean i hate these countries i love all i love everywhere and i will always give a place a second chance these situations happen to me because of the time that i
