Which Country Has The Best Fried Chicken?

today we are going to find the greatest Fried Chicken in the world on my Instagram I asked you the audience to pick and submit your top Global Fried Chickens and the results are in and we’ll be putting the top 12 contenders in a bracket seated from 1 through 12 the top four seeds get to skip the first round while the bottom eight battle it out to move on the world’s best fried chickens will go head to head round for round until we find our champion my team and I will be judging on two things Crunch and flavor let the games begin now round round one our first battle begins with the ninth ranked Thailand hot guy versus the eighth ranked Indian chicken pakora now first up India chicken pakora we got some boneless skinless chicken thigh that has been cut into half in strips and into a medium mixing bowl with 1 teaspoon or 4 G of cashmir chili powder 1 TPO or 4 G of geram Masala 1/4 teaspoon or 1 G of turmeric powder 1 taspo or 4 G of ginger powder half a cup or 60 G of bassan apparently called gram flour 1/4 C or 30 G of cornstarch whis together then grade half an onion into a bowl the white of one egg whis 1/4 cup or 60 G of water whisk follow with two sprigs of Curry leaves your chicken thigh 2 and 12 TPS or 12 G of kosher salt and mix together until fully combined drop your chicken into the oil and fry for 3 to 4 minutes or until a beautiful gbd golden brown delicious remove drain of excess oil and serve now our opponent Thailand hot y so into a blender goes four cloves of garlic one bunch of cilantro stems rough chopped 1 tspo or 15 g of sugar one tbp or 15 G of kosher salt 1/4 taspo or 1 G of black peppercorn 1/4 taspo or 1 G of white pepper God I love white pepper 1 taspo or 4 G of dark soy sauce 2 tbsp or 30 G of light soy sauce slend on high speeded until smooth that is your marinade we’re going to combine that with one lb of chicken wings in a medium Bowl wrap coat and marinade then when it comes to Frying time you simply add 1 cup or 120 g of rice flour to that bowl mixed together until coated thoroughly and then fry for 3 to 5 minutes the wing should be golden crunchy and beautiful remove from the oil drain season with Salt Plate and traditionally it’s garnished with fried shallot which they all fall off but that’s what you do and now we’re in the war Arena who’s going to move on to the next round Thailand with hot guy or India with chicken pakora first up the Indian chicken pakora vickram a seven me a six Kim an eight total score 21 the flavor is really good I wish there was more Crunch and crispness and a lot of the time when I get pakora it’s a little bit of a softer crunch which sometimes you desire that but I still think it creates a lacking experience but it’s still delicious and I would eat this whole plate there is a balance between Crunch and flavor and which one stands out more this one is very flavorful it makes up for the lack of crunch that there is the flavor is great and if you get like a piece like this with all these little wispy guys on it that’s going to be a nice crunchy piece but the fact that it’s not all the way crunchy I think is what hinders it in my book next Thailand hot y vicam 6.5 me 6.5 Cam and an eight we have a tie with two scoring at 21 the crunch was there which is what I’ve been looking for but it didn’t raise the score that much higher because I actually think the flavor of the chicken pakora is way better that said the crunch helps put this in the lead for me I agree agree with pretty much everything Josh just said for the same exact reasons it doesn’t look like it but these two are very similar styles of chicken and I scored them completely the same where the pakora lacked in texture it made up in flavor and where the hot y lacked in flavor it made up in texture so I think in my book it put them both on the same exact level we already have a tie so to break this we’re each going to write down which one we think is better wow I I can accept that I think that that’s a fair winner so pakora wins this round so Indian chicken bakora advances to face one of the biggest opponents we have number one ranked by you or well those who voted Korean yyam before we get there we have the next first round battle the 12th ranked Honduran poo Chucho versus the fifth ranked Taiwan yans suji which is also called Taiwanese salt and pepper chicken in a medium mixing bowl 2 tbsps of 30 G of beer ideally logger 2 tspoons of 30 G of light soy sauce 1 tbsp or 15 g of sugar 1 tbsp or 15 G of kosher salt4 taspo or 1 G of Chinese Five Spice 1 taspo or 4 G of ground white pepper four garlic cloves grated whisk that together and four boneless skinless chicken thighs which have been cut into bite-sized pieces toss to coat thoroughly and marinate overnight the breading process here is a little different you got 1 cup or 100 G of sweet potato flour right you’re going to add half of that so half a cup or 50 g into the actual marinated chicken mix until coated and the other half goes into a separate Bowl you toss your battered chicken into the dredge fry until gbd about 3 to 4 minutes and while that’s frying you make a nice little seasoning mix which is really just 1 tbsp or 15 G of ground white pepper4 t 1 G of curry powder half a teaspoon or 2 G of Chinese five spice and 2 taspo or 8 G of kosher salt mix together pull your fried chicken out and season immediately with your seasoning mix and you can also garnish this with fried Tha basil which is exactly what you think it is now it’s opponent the Honduran poo Chucho typically this is served with fried gred plantains shredded cabbage pickled onion and a bunch of sauces which yes I know and it sounds incredible but for this video we’re only looking at the Shong in a medium mixing bowl with four boning chicken thighs you’re going to add 1 tbsp or 15 G of chicken buan 1 t or 4 G of ground cumin 1 tbsp or 15 G of yellow mustard five cloves of garlic grated 1 tbsp or 15 G of kosher salt mixed until thoroughly coated and marinate overnight now from here all you do is Dredge it in plain flour which I seasoned lightly with salt get it thoroughly coated and then fry at 350 F or 175 C until an internal temperature of 165 F or 75° C is achieved it should also be beautifully golden brown transfer to a wire rack season it taste with salt and serve time to taste and see who moves on first Taiwan yans suji vicam 7 me a 6.5 and cam comes in with a 9.5 total score 23 w wow that’s really that’s kind of ridiculous yeah it’s a big swing with the 9.5 there I rated this the same as the hot ya because to me it feels very similar and I also like it a lot very similar to kind of the pakora from earlier I had to ask if there was MSG in this cuz it’s really addicting and that addictiveness even though it’s not as deep of a crunch it’s more of a soft crunch it really puts it over a lot of chickens for me this might be my favorite Fried Chicken there’s just something magical about this stuff it’s sweet it’s salty it’s got that Zing from the white pepper the crunch is about halfway there but I think it’s totally made up for in the depth of flavor that you get from the chicken now for the hondur and poo Chucho vickram a 7 and 1/2 me an eight this is looking like a win for the Hond and cim comes up with a 7.5 total score 23 it looks like what you’d see in America on fried chicken but you take a bite and it’s everything but American the depth of flavor is insane and you get a great crunch which is amazing some of the crunch is almost better than a buttermilk fries sh crunch is kind of crazy you add all these together and you have Honduras as the clear winner here it’s a tie it’s a tie are you how are we doing this so we’re all going to write down the one that we think is the winner and flip our cards around yeah Honduras wins so they Honduras take this win and move on to face number four ranked by you back hendle from Austria but first our next round one battle which will be two interesting opponents Dominican Republic chirona poo versus Italy poo Frito first up Italy with poo Frito into a medium mixing bowl add 1 tbsp or 15 G of kosher salt 1 taspo or 4 G of ground white pepper one Munch of parsley rough chopped one sprink of Rosemary bruised one bay leaf one clove of garlic crushed one lemon Juiced and zested one cup or 240 ML of extra virgin olive oil this is an oily start to say the least we have four boneless skinless chicken thighs cut into bite-sized pieces tossed in mixed thoroughly and marinated in the refrigerator for 1 to 3 hours in a separate medium-sized mixing bowl goes in 1/4 cup or 50 g of allpurpose flour and two large eggs whis together adding water until you reach a sort of batter like consistency chicken comes out of the marinade placed in the batter and then fried for 2 to 3 minutes or until a light golden brown and obviously cooked through please no raw chicken all right tired of seeing it remove from the oil season with salt and serve now Italy’s opponent Dominican Republic chichiron dep poo look this dish is popular all over the place you guys specifically voted for the Dominican Republic version to represent this dish but it’s made in in many different ways in different places like Puerto Rico Cuba so in a way this could be a representative for any of the regions that know and love it you’ll add 2 tbpo or 30 G of kosher salt one teaspoon or 4 G of Sazon oh boy we got MSG entering the equation followed with half a teaspoon or 2 gam of fresh oregano optionally add half a cup of bitter orange juice the juice of one lime 2 tbsp or 30 G of extrav Virgin Olive Oil three cloves of garlic crushed whis together four bonless chicken thighs with the skin on cut into bite-sized pieces marinate overnight frying this is much simpler quite literally just a bowl of plain allpurpose flour you can season that flour lightly with salt if you wish which I would recommend toss your chicken in the flour shake up the excess and fry for about 45 minutes or until gbd remove from the oil season to taste with salt and it’s time to taste first up Dominican Republic chichiron de poo vicam an 8.5 me an eight and cam a nine a total 25.5 one of our highest scores so far this is everything I want in a fried chicken genuinely no sauce required to make this absolutely delicious it’s salty it’s fatty you get the crunchiness from the skin the benefit of that skin is insane Umami and of course acidity so the outside has a great crunch there’s so much juiciness inside it and the flavor is just kind of carried by that juiciness all in all it’s the highest rated one for me cuz it’s the best one I’ve had so far I crave this chicken when I lived in New York City I lived a block away from a Puerto Rican restaurant that had dope chichon poo I ate it two to three times a week it’s just this harmony of texture and flavor now chichiron depoo has an opponent here and it is Italy with poo Frito vicam comes in with three and me a four and finally a two total score nine not the type of crunch I want in a fried chicken there is crispness but it’s very far away from where it needs to be there’s no crunch whatsoever if it was breaded versus not breaded I don’t think I’d be able to tell the difference I think the breading is just kind of mushy and it came out a little on the mushier side too have you ever ordered sweet and sour chicken and they forget to give you the sauce and you’re like me I’ll eat it anyways that’s that but it tastes tastes like lemon respect and love to Italy but chich poo moves on to face the number two ranked by you the subscribers American Southern Fried Chicken but not before our final first round battle Malaysia with I am gang versus Brazil frango pasarin into a mixing bowl add four boneless chicken thighs cut into bite-sized pieces one bunch of parsley rough chopped four cloves of garlic crushed one small yellow onion chopped weird choice but okay let’s see how this turns out three sprigs of oregano picked and rough chopped 1/4 cup or 60 G of lemon juice 1 tbsp or 15 G of olive oil 2 tasp or 8 G of kosher salt mix until fully Incorporated and marinate for 1 to 2 hours in a separate mixing bowl add 2 cups or 240 G of allpurpose flour 1 taspo or 4 G of baking powder 2 taspo or 8 G of kosher salt whisk until combined and it’s very simple marinated chicken goes into the dredge dropped in hot oil and fried until golden brown delicious and cooked through remove from the oil seasoned with salt and now we prepare the opponent Malaysia I am Gant now there’s a lot of ingredients in this blender okay so I don’t want to hear listen every ingredient ingent that goes in this is contributing flavor that means that this could be one of the strongest opponents in this entire game so pay close attention One stock of lemongrass rough chopped two cloves of garlic rough chopped a half inch knob of Ginger grated a half inch knob of galangal grated 1 taspo or 4 G of brown sugar half a teaspoon or 2 G of turmeric powder 1 taspo or 4 G of curry powder 1/4 teaspoon or 1 G of cashmir chili oh my God just need to take a breath 1 tpoon or 4 G of cumin seed toasted half a teaspoon or 2 G of fennel seed toasted 1 taspo or 4 G of coriander seeds toasted 2 taspo or 8 G of kosher salt one shallot rough chopped A3 cup or 80 M of coconut milk plus a light splash of water just to thin the consistency and blend on high until as smooth as possible now pour that into a medium mixing bowl with 1 pounder 450 G of chicken wings toss until fully coated and marinate overnight once you’re ready toss your chicken pieces with cornstarch and deep fry for 4 to 6 minutes or until gbd drain season with salt and let’s find out which of our final chickens will make it out of the first round first up Brazil frango a pasino vicam a five me a seven and cam a seven a total of 19 this is very similar to chichiron depoo citrusy Salty fatty you got the crunchy skin it’s acidic it’s herbaceous it’s really crunchy because of that skin but to eat it it feels like there’s something lacking it doesn’t have a deep flavor to me it’s very surface level flavor and the crunch is kind of outweighing the flavor for me next up Malaysia I am gang vicam an eight big up from his last one me a six only one point down and cam a five a total of 19 another top for God’s sake it was nice having like the crispy bits on there there is good flavor it tastes kind of like a Tha Curry but it’s just not it for me it was all right it’s not as crunchy as I want it to be it has good flavor but it’s too much of a low hum when I want it to be screaming in my face we have another tie so we’re going to all ride the one we think won Super zil’s fringo pasino with the upset now moves on to face Japan with carag we now move on and kick off round round two with a big battle Korea with Y yum in a medium mixing bowl we have 1 lb or 450 G of chicken wings which are seasoned with 1 tbsp or 15 G of kosher salt 1 teaspoon or 4 G of fresh cracked black pepper and 1 inch knob of Ginger grated toss to combine and marinate overnight and then it’s very simple you just toss this with cornstarch coat thoroughly you’re going to fry it first once at 320 fhe or 160 C for 4 to 5 minutes drain and then fry again at 375 F or 190 C until beautifully gbd with these little crispity crunches about 3 to 4 minutes now transfer to a medium Bowl toss with yyam sauce until coated thoroughly the full recipe will be on my website Papo plate garnished with toasted sesame seeds and thinly sliced green onion this is how it’s served whether it has a leg up from the sauce or not is simply just what it is now the real battle begins India chicken pakora can it steal the wind from the number one ranked Fried Chicken Korea with Yang yam this is everything I want it’s crunchy chewy fatty juicy and the flavor it doesn’t go higher than this it’s perfectly ly balanced with salt sweetness little bit of spice Umami makes me say mommy you’d think that the sauce would kind of negate the crunch but the crunch is still there because of the double fries it’s just really hard to top this chicken oh I’ll top it I’ll top the out of it it’s perfection in the form of chicken okay but we got to give pakur a chance we’re going to vote which one moves on the next round a unanimous decision big win for Korea but the game is not over moving on to the next round it was an incredible fight for an incredible Fried Chicken Korea gets the win with yyam and we’ll take on the winner of the next round two battle which is Honduran po Chucho versus Austria with back handle which starts with a butterfly chicken breast plastic gra over the top pound the chicken very thin at bare minimum it should be no thicker than a/2 in but you can go even thinner than that I went maybe closer to a/4 in or a/ thir inch you got a three-step breading station that’s flour egg wash breadcrumbs first the chicken goes into the flour shake off the excess then into the egg wash fully coated and finally into the breadcrumbs to coat every nook and cranny now they get shallow fries fried in clarified butter for 3 to 4 minutes shaking the pan the entire time you must keep moving the pan this is a thing it’s similar to shinel but with chicken remove from the oil season immediately with salt on both sides and serve with a lemon wedge this is such a basic recipe I don’t even know how it could possibly hold a candle but let’s see so bandle is basically like schnitzel I already know what people are thinking that’s not how you pronounce it look do you want me to sit here and try really hard to pronounce it really well Backle is that what you want sorry I’m not Austrian we cooked it in clarified butter that adds a lot of flavor I can taste it it’s got a good crunch I like this simplicity bit of lemon juice it’s a good bite it’s hard to talk about this without comparing it to the other one but I’d say this has a very traditional palette of flavor this is a chicken I’m always going to enjoy but I feel like the flavor of the clarified butter is almost too much like I feel like it’s overpowering yeah I’d prefer this with porker ve now for the hondur and poo Chucho we have three votes we need a minimum of two of us to agree for either of these to move on to the next round it’s a three for three and the story continues Hond us with that upset Victory they enter a battle against The Undefeated thus far Korea with Yang yam but first our next second round Showdown Dominican Republic chichiron poo versus America Southern Fried Chicken this is a tough battle I mean probably my most favorite Fried Chicken of all time is buttermilk fried chicken the American version large mixing bowl 2 cups or 480 mL of Buttermilk half a teaspoon or 2 G of MSG that’s right MSG the chichon depoo used MSG too so 1 tbpo or 15 G of kosher salt a/4 teaspoon or 1 G of but powder 1 tbsp or 15 G of garlic powder 1 tbsp or 15 G of paprika 2 taspo or 8 G of ground white pepper whisk until combined and you’re going to add four bone in skin on chicken thighs toss by hand till combined make sure that’s fully submerged and marinate overnight now a separate mixing bowl are dredge two cups or 280 G of allpurpose flour 1 tbsp or 15 G of kosher salt 1/4 TPO or 1 G of MSG 2 taspo or 8 G of garlic powder 2 taspo or 8 G of fresh ground black pepper 1 TPO or 4 G of smoked paprika whis together now you know the drill you dredge your marinated chicken you deep fry dry for 8 to 10 minutes or until an internal temperature of 165 F or 74 CSUS is achie remove from the oil seasoned with additional salt and the battle begins start with ch poo the American Fried Chicken that is a hard Choice what that’s crazy I so don’t agree with that at all the flavor of the Dominican Republic one is far superior than the American one the American one sure is a base to a lot of grap Fried Chicken but it’s not as exciting to me as the Dominican Republic one I feel exactly the same way there’s just something about this to me that I love it and I’d probably choose it nine times out of time it’s the most anti-American voters I’ve ever seen wow Dominican Republic chichiron depoo with the big win moving on to the next battle we have Brazil frango a pasino versus Japan with carag I mean carag is very basic you got 1 pound or 450 G of boneless skinless Chien thighs cut into bite-sized pieces into a mixing bowl along with 2 taspo or 8 G of shirashi 1 tbspoon or 15 G of light soy sauce 2 taspo or 8 G of mirin 1 tbsp or 15 G of sake half an inch of NAA Ginger grated two cloves of garlic grated 1 tpon or 4 G of Honey toss until thoroughly coated and marinate overnight then from there it’s very simple right you toss the chicken and cornstarch shake out the excess and deep fry for 3 to 5 minutes or until gbd transferred to a wire rack seasoned tastes with salt and a little bit of togarashi Japan’s carag hasn’t even gone against anyone yet Brazil has already been a Victor but can it remain a Victor let’s start with KAG the ring is really wispy and soft but also you still get a good crunch out of it and it’s packed with flavors salty absorbs all the flavors of the marinade but it’s a special wispy Crispy Crunchy carag crunch that you really don’t see anywhere else very nice it’s very pronounced but also very delicate and then you pair it with this like really crispy unique exterior and it’s just killer then I’m going to try this Brazilian chicken we’re simply going to vote which one we think is better unanimous I mean look I think that this makes a lot of sense this is essentially diet chichona po let’s be honest but carag is an iconic chicken I really want to see this one win this is one of my favorite Fried Chickens of all time and thankfully it’s moving on to the next round frango a pasino truly an Immaculate chicken but Japan with carag takes the win thus advancing it to the semifinals the semifinalists Japan versus Dominican Republic these are two incredible chickens I will say the chichiron depoo has surprised me every step of the way and has quickly become one of my favorite chickens of all time but KAG already holds that trophy so I guess we get to see the real winner here on the chichiron we’re simply going to vote which one we think is better wow what there’s no way you feel that way I do I’m the Oddball out both have been sitting here for the same length of time the Dominican Republic one and this is coming for someone who loves carag Dominican Republic one retained more crunch had more flavor more Umami and it had the twist of acid in there already built into the breading I don’t need to sauce with this this to me in order for this to really de shine it needs like a Mayo or a sauce or something this was a tough call to make this wispy crunch that you get on the carag puts it over this traditional crunch that you get from the Dominican Republic that’s on one on the flavor side of things I think these flavors just go a little bit deeper than the Dominican Republic one honestly my choice could have changed 15 times today and it would have been different every time this was a really hard matchup but I think there’s something about carag that’s extremely near and dear to my heart on top of the flavor it just pushed it over the edge for me so it was a very close battle but carag moves on it’s a two times win for Japan with karag who will now move on to the final showdown against whoever wins in the next Battle of Korea with yyam versus Honduras poo Chucho an unlikely competition we’ve made it to the semi-finals Korean Fried Chicken versus the Honduran Fried Chicken we just tasted the Korean Fried Chicken so we’re bringing a fresh Honduran chicken back the taste and then pick which one we like more another win for Korea wow it’s getting spicy in here guys I like the Honduran chicken I think it’s a fantastic fried chicken I would eat it any day of the week but the flavor of the Korean fried chicken and it still has that crunch I mean it’s hard to beat the Honduran one I never had before and this Underdog made it all the way to the semi-final which is Big props for the Honduran one and then they’re both flavor powerhouses but it’s just going to have to go to Korea for this one there’s a reason you can’t go to a restaurant these days and not see Korean Fried Chicken on the menu it’s cuz it’s so good but that doesn’t mean it can’t be beat So Korea is moving on to the final round versus the number three ranked chicken from Japan carag the winner here will Define our most favorite style of fried chicken in the world we’ll taste both one more time and decide our final winner that is carag wispy crunch little sweetness little saltiness soy mirin sake so many Japanese flavors in one and moving on to Korea damn crunch is still there too that’s crazy wow we have a winner Korea wins with Yang yum it truly lives up to its great name defeating chicken pakura boyo Chucho and carag to be crowned the best fried chicken from around the world that we have ever had but hey this is just our opinion you can do whatever the you want to do but maybe start with Korean Fried Chicken if you never had it before because today it’s the greatest Fried Chicken in the [Music] world
