MongoDB Shares rose as much as 16% in extended trading Thursday after the database software maker reported healthy fiscal second-quarter earnings and raised full-year guidance.

Here’s how the company fared against the LSEG consensus:

  • Earnings per share: 70 cents adjusted versus 49 cents expected
  • Revenue: $478.1 million vs. $464.1 million

MongoDB revenue grew 13% year over year in the quarter ended July 31, according to a statement. Net loss for the quarter was $54.5 million, or 74 cents per share, compared with $37.6 million, or 53 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter.

“We believe we are incredibly well positioned to help customers incorporate generative AI into their businesses and modernize their legacy applications,” CEO Dev Ittycheria said in the release.

The company’s Atlas cloud database service enjoyed modestly better-than-expected consumption, it said on a conference call with analysts.

In the first fiscal quarter, Atlas consumption growth slowed as customers saw more challenging economic conditions, and usage in the second fiscal quarter implies unchanged weather, Ittycheria said.

“Overall, we have not seen the macroeconomic environment impact our ability to win new business, and that was also true in the second quarter,” Ittycheria said. “We realized that this is different from what we hear from other software vendors.”

On Thursday, Ash Kulkarni, CEO of search software maker Elasticsaid the volume of customer engagements it closed in its fiscal first quarter was below plan. That stock fell 23% after the close. During the MongoDB call, Ittycheria talked about helping companies migrate away from Elastic products.

In terms of guidance, MongoDB has forecast fiscal third-quarter adjusted earnings of 65 cents to 68 cents per share on revenue of $493.0 million to $497.0 million. Analysts polled by LSEG had expected adjusted earnings per share of 60 cents on revenue of $478.8 million.

Management has slightly raised its guidance for fiscal 2025. MongoDB now expects adjusted earnings of $2.33 to $2.47 per share on revenue of $1.92 billion to $1.93 billion. This is an increase from its May forecast of adjusted earnings per share of $2.15 to $2.30 and revenue of $1.88 billion to $1.90 billion. Analysts had expected adjusted earnings of $2.26 per share on revenue of $1.9 billion.

Excluding after-hours trading, MongoDB shares are down nearly 40% this year, while the S&P 500 index has gained 17% over the same period.
