Even after getting married at 15 and becoming a mother at 17, Moushumi Chatterjee was one of the highest-paid actresses in Bollywood in the 1970s. Following the success of her first film, she wanted to continue her studies but married Jayanta Mukherjee, the son of legendary Indian music director and singer Hemant Kumar, at the request of her family. Regarding this, the actress told Lehren Retro in an interview in 2023, “My father was very close to his elder sister and she was in the last stages of cancer. Her last wish was to see me married. So, my father-in-law suggested that the wedding should take place soon.”
