Actor John Vijay has been accused of harassment by a number of women. Recently, singer Chinmayi Sripada took to her X account (formerly known as Twitter) and shared screenshots of the allegations against the actor.

It all started after a female journalist, who was covering sexual misconduct in Malayalam cinema a few days ago, claimed that John had made advances towards her while she was waiting for an interview. Since then, Chinmayi has been sharing screenshots of various allegations against the actor. In the screenshots, some are seen accusing John of “leering” and making women feel “uncomfortable” at workplaces. One of the female journalists even claimed that the actor behaved inappropriately towards her.

“After The Newsminute reported on the sexual assault case, Malaysian cinema also mentioned John Vijay for his misconduct with the journalist. There are other women speaking about his behaviour in general,” Chinmayi wrote while sharing the screenshots and added, “More about John Vijay from other people who read the post. One of them interviewed him on camera.”

John was accused by many women during the #MeToo movement in 2018. VJ, RJ and singer Sriranjani slammed him for his behaviour. Chinmayi thanked him for sharing his story with the world and wrote, “Thank you Sriranjini for speaking out. I know you shared your story with me last week. I got three other girls narrating their own incidents about John Vijay. Girls, find the strength. Speak out. It doesn’t matter if he is your father’s friend.”

However, it is to be noted that John Vijay has not reacted to the allegations so far.

In 2018, John spoke out about the Me Too allegations when he told Firstpost: “I am a very transparent person who speaks my mind. Not with any ulterior motives or intentions. I have understood that sometimes my jokes are not funny to everyone and can come across as insensitive. When I truly feel that someone doesn’t appreciate what I am saying, isn’t on the same page and doesn’t understand me, I remove myself from the conversation or from being present in that place.”

“I don’t really remember the incidents mentioned on Twitter, I have not met these people alone anywhere or asked them out. If my comments, which I found funny and witty, had hurt anyone at some point, I would like to take this opportunity to inform that I also feel very emotionally hurt by my behavior. This would be my lesson in knowing what to say to whom and when. I fully support this #MeToo movement. If I had not been drawn to it, I would have been one of the first to voice this cause and support this movement.”

John Vijay is known for his work in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi films.
