“He is a business guy who works 9 to 5 and also runs an NGO. We met through some mutual friends in Hyderabad. He friendzoned me for six months. I started liking him from day one. I was very sure about him. Initially, I also agreed to be friends. Mera bhi ego agaya ki hum toh hum dost hi rahenge (I also became selfish and said let’s be just friends). But within a few weeks, I was very sure about him,” she added. Avika began dating Roadies alumnus and social activist Milind in November 2020. The couple publicly confirmed their relationship soon after and have since delighted fans with their loving social media posts. The 27-year-old revealed that Milind is the first guy she introduced her parents to and it was during one of her first visits to his house that Avika’s mother asked her, “Shaadi kab horahi hai?”
“I introduced him as a friend because Maa toh maa hoti haiShe took notice. I was involved with him in talks and fundraising for his NGO!” The 1920s Horrors of the Heart actor Milind said yes to her after six months of proposing to her.I’ve already said this (I had proposed to him six months ago.) Woh bahot samjhdar hai (He is very intelligent). After six months, he said, ‘Okay, I love you too!’ So I asked him, ‘Yeh chhe mahine kya drama kya tha?’ and like a good guy, he explained that he didn’t want to rush things and see that we really liked each other as friends and only then we would take things forward.”
Avika, who said she was always in love with Milind, revealed that if it were up to her, she would have married him four years ago. “I have it in my hands because I got married four years ago. There was no need to think anything. Now everything that is here is here. I already have marriage in mind. But he was sensible enough. He told me, ‘You are still 26 and I am 32. Take your time to work and see life,’” she added.
At just 21, Avika started her own production house after undergoing rigorous training in screenwriting. Her financial prudence is evident in her ability to secure her future, thanks to shrewd investments made by her father. During the podcast, she revealed that even if she were to quit acting, she would be able to support herself successfully as she made sure to save enough money. “My father is very smart. He started investing in properties and other places from the time I was very young. Agar main kaam karna chor bhi doon toh meri life waise set hai (Even if I stop working, I can easily survive),” she added.
Young Avika was just a puppet who recited lines without understanding the nuances of the craft. It was only towards the end of her monumental stint on Balika Vadhu, which extended way beyond its initial 80-episode contract to a staggering 515 episodes, that she understood the concept of TRPs and the TV industry’s relentless pursuit of drama. When Bharti asked her about her favourite on-screen husband, Avika, who is gearing up for Disney Plus Hotstar’s Bloody Ishq, revealed that Avinash Mukherjee, who played her husband in Balika Vadhu, is still her friend and the two were once classmates. “Meri 20 shaadiya ho chuki hain 20 TV. I shared the best bond with Jagya. We went to the same school. I was a bully and very rude in school,” she recalled.
To maintain the show’s high ratings, Avika’s character in Sasural Simar Ka was frequently subjected to extreme plots, including kidnappings, deaths, and hospitalizations, which often coincided with her exams. Despite these challenges, she persevered and eventually crossed over from the small screen to the South Indian film industry. At the age of 15, she spoke openly about her desire to act in films, which was followed by a series of offers from the Marathi and Gujarati industries. Avika made her film debut in the Telugu film industry with Uyyala Jampala.
