Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2 and Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein were originally scheduled to clash at the box office on Independence Day.

Nothing is going well for Akshay Kumar as the actor is having serious difficulties at the box office. Except for Sooryavanshi, the actor failed to deliver any hit film in the post-pandemic era (as the lead). Even this year, he had already delivered two big flops in the form of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Sarfira. Now, all eyes are on the performance of Khel Khel Mein.

Khel Khel Mein is Akshay’s third release of the year and fans are hoping that the film will turn the tables for the superstar. It is directed by Mudassar Aziz, whose Pati Patni Aur Woh was a blockbuster. Apart from Akshay, the film also stars Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, Aparshakti Khurana, Fardeen Khan and others in key roles.

The makers had set the release date of August 15 after Pushpa 2 was postponed from its Independence Day release. However, right after its announcement, even the makers of Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2 made it official that their film will release on Independence Day, thus creating a scenario of a huge box office clash.

Interestingly, apart from these two films, John Abraham’s Vedaa had announced its arrival on Independence Day much earlier, thus creating a three-way showdown scene.

Of all the releases, Stree 2 is the hot favourite to win the box office battle as it will enjoy the benefit of the franchise factor. Apart from that, it is a part of Maddock’s Supernatural Universe, which is already enjoying a good buzz after the huge success of Munjya. Hence, the Shraddha Kapoor-starrer is expected to have a huge edge over other films.

Amidst this, it is now rumoured that Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein is likely to be postponed to another date. If true, it will be considered a smart move as the film will enjoy a better screen count if it comes solo. Opposite Stree 2, it would have struggled to secure a good screen count.
